Deathmatch is now a number-one best seller in postapocalyptic science fiction, number one in dystopian science fiction, number one in military science fiction, and number one in war fiction.

Humanity's most fearsome enemy is no longer death.

Alpha and Marsoc meet their match

Lurking in the bush is the dark shadow cast by the operators - a terrifying force every bit their equal in skill, ferocity, and sheer resolve...but utterly unconstrained by humanity, compassion, or brotherhood. Now, to complete their mission and save the world, the operators will have to pay with their lives, or their souls, or possibly both.

One troop descends into hell

Rolling the dice on a last-ditch plan to save London by retrieving the Kazakh's zombie-annihilating virus, Jameson leads his last best men into the dragon's den - an underground bunker home to the savage and hyperskilled Spetsnaz Alfa group. Getting out alive is a million-to-one shot - and then their real problems begin.

The Kennedy is burning

The world's deadliest maritime commando force were made homeless when their battlecruiser went to the bottom of the Atlantic. Now they're looking for payback - and a replacement nuclear-powered warship. But not only is the whole JFK in play - so is Dr. Park, his vaccine design, and thus the fate of the entire world.

I am close personal friends with the author.

I say this partly because it's the right thing to do and partly to explain how a Jane Eyre-loving, and these days mostly a non-fiction reader, came to read eleven zombie apocalypse novels.

You might think that as a good friend I would have read Book One right around the time book one was published, but you'd be wrong. It took me embarrassingly long to start reading Arisen because it's so far outside my usual tastes. Also, I hate violence in books and movies.

But here I am, eleven ZA novels later, a changed woman. One reviewer said, as a criticism, that the readers all know enough about the weapons described that we could clean them. While a two-star review must sting, odds are Michael took this as a compliment. Meticulous research and total accuracy around technology (weapons, aircraft, ships, biology, viruses, vaccines) are part of what makes the series great. In addition to the pleasure of reading them I also feel like I'm learning something.

But for me it's all in the characters (esp. Ali, Juice, Henno, and Predator). They don't do things out of character to move the plot along. Their humanity (or lack of humanity in the case of other characters, living and dead) is a driving force behind the direction of the story. They work as a team, they are committed to their personal areas of expertise, and they dig deep and improvise when the chips are down. They tolerate all kinds of discomfort without complaining and they never give up. Lots of life lessons in there, whether you're fighting for your life in the ZA or just going to work or being a parent or student every day.

So I rate Book Eleven, and all the rest, five stars. It's fair to say I wouldn't have written a one- or two-star review if I thought the books weren't good; I would have just kept quiet. Even less likely, you'll have to take my word for it, is me writing a five-star review if I thought they weren't good.

Deathmatch Arisen Book 11 (Audible Audio Edition) Michael Stephen Fuchs R C Bray Podium Publishing Books Reviews

I am enjoying watching the militia on board the ship grow into a true fighting force. These guys have come so far - it seems like having patient zero would be fairly useless without Park and the ship in play. Getting P0 back to England and another scientist would mean extra time in fabricating a vaccination - Time they just do not have.
We will see how this plays out in book 12.

I also love the rivalries between the Vasily/Ali and Handon/Mischa. I am totally sick of Henno. Completely. Utterly. Done.
These guys are supposed to be the good guys. If everyone left is completely morally bankrupt then why bother saving anyone?
Henno seems more like the Russians - and those guys were written to be completely unlikable.

I enjoyed reading this a lot. This series has engaged my emotional investment.
This is hands down one of the most action packed, well written zombie series out. Usually this far in you can tell an author is making up new stuff or trying to drag things out to make more books but not this series. They are written as if they were all planned out from the beginning, bringing a great detailed and world wide story together. Excellent job!
I love this series. Have from the beginning and have thoroughly enjoyed each and every book up to this point. How good is this one? I read at night when I go to bed. I specifically would not pick this one up if I wanted a full nights rest. No matter where I was in the book... once I started reading I would suddenly be wide awake due to the adrenaline (or whatever) the story would pump through my system. It just doesn't let up... there is no "down time"... ever. Not for the faint of heart! ) Starting book 12 as soon as I get a few nights of decent sleep. Can't recommend enough.
This five-star review is for the series as a whole.
These writers, and later on Fuchs by himself, have given us something exciting, gripping, tense, comedic, and true.
I read a LOT of this genre, and I have read some fantastic authors.
This series is, without doubt, something special.
It takes all the excitement, charm, and quality that this genre thrives on, and multiplies them all by a thousand.
Be prepared for a thrilling, action-packed trip at a thousand miles an hour.
Do NOT start any of the books too late in the day, or you're in for many sleepless nights as you power through the entire series.
I guarantee it.
Fuchs puts together another page-turner, as we pick up the story on this well written zombie-apocalypse series. Good action, and while we are all familiar with the core characters at this point (book 11), Fuchs does a good job using the OPFOR as character development material. Some of his best work yet, and a worthy addition to this great z-saga.
If you like z-poc fiction, especially with a military leaning, this is a great series to read.
I discount reviews that say "couldn't put it down" or "prepare to stay up all night" as almost nothing written is that compelling and these phrases are overused. This book and this series are the stark exceptions to that rule. I just spent 6 hours at the expense of sleep and family time because I had to see what happens next. Well researched cutting edge military weapons, tactics, and mindsets. Multiple cliffhangers and constant action as critical paths interest and weave away again. Completely believable dialog and an instinctive bead on how human we are under pressure. That there are also zombies is just a plus - read this series for the authentic feeling of being there on the special ops ride of your life. These books should/will be a major blockbuster movie franchise.
